The Indian Cobra is a cobra species found in the Asian regions of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, and one of the most common to inflict snakebites on humans in India. It is also the snake revered by snake charmers. While cobras typically expand their hoods as a defense mechanism, the Indian cobra is identified by its large and impressive hood with a very distinct marking that resemble ‘fake eyes’. Its venom is a powerful neurotoxin and cardiotoxin, which causes paralysis, respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest.
