Melanie Panayiotou was 55 years old and best known as the sister of late George Michael who was an English singer, songwriter, record producer, and philanthropist who rose to fame as a member of the music duo Wham! and later embarked on a solo career.
Unfortunately, she passed away at her home on Christmas Day, police have said, three years to the day since the singer’s death. The family confirmed in a statement that Melanie “passed away suddenly” over Christmas.
The Metropolitan Police also confirmed the death in a statement, which read: “Police were called by London Ambulance Service at approximately 1935hrs on Wednesday, 25 December to reports of the sudden death of a woman, aged in her 50s. “The death is not being treated as suspicious by police.”
The family’s lawyer, John Reid, said in a statement on Friday “We can confirm that very tragically Melanie has passed away suddenly,” and added, “We would simply ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this very sad time.”

Michael struggled with substance abuse and was also arrested for drug-related offenses in 2006, 2008, and 2010. In the early hours of 25 December 2016, Michael died in bed at his home in Goring-on-Thames, aged 53. He was found by his Australian partner, Fadi Fawaz.
In March 2017, a senior coroner in Oxfordshire attributed Michael’s death to dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and a fatty liver. Then, his funeral was held on 29 March 2017. In a private ceremony, he was buried at Highgate Cemetery in north London, near his mother’s grave.

He achieved seven number one songs on the UK Singles Chart and eight number one songs on the US Billboard Hot 100.
